Great goose
I'm pretty sure that almost every gamer has heard of this game. After all, it won the BAFTA (British Academy Games Award for Family) after its release in 2019 and ended up as a recommendation in various indie games lists. As I've only now been able to get my hands on the game myself, my review is probably way too late. Nevertheless, I thought since I've played it, I'll review it.
Fortunately for me and the lazy readers of this article, I don't have to explain much because the game idea is as simple as it is entertaining. In the nameless goose game, we play - unsurprisingly - a goose. A goose that has nothing else on its mind but to annoy the inhabitants of a small town and cause mischief. All we need are four buttons and a tally sheet with all kinds of small tasks.
Goose on the loose
For example, we have to steal the key from the gardener or break the market vendor's broom. Our repertoire of movements is limited to putting things in our beaks, ducking, spreading our wings and quacking. While we attract people's attention with our annoying honks, the wing gimmick is absolutely irrelevant. And at the same time it's not, because it completes the movement options of a goose. So we run around cackling, interact with objects and people and see what freedom the game offers us.
It's clear that Untitled Goose Game isn't really challenging, even if we have to think outside the box or consult online guides for some of the tasks. Despite its small size, it didn't annoy me for a second. On the contrary, this small, compact experience is one of those trenchant entertainment treats that you can just snack away and keep a smile on your face almost all the time.
It's just fun to be a little bit mean and watch the duckling carry out our pranks. With those black eyes of his, in which you can sometimes detect diabolical glee. And that intrusive honking that sounds almost mocking. I don't want to (and can't) say any more about Untitled Untitled Goose Game , so I'll keep it short: give it a try, it costs less than going to the movies after all.
