What do conspiracy theories, the crayon paintings on your parents' walls and the world of Parisian fashion have in common? That's right, they all stem from the imagination, the creative thought, the fantastic. Accordingly, with a lot of goodwill, pretty much every work of fiction can be attributed to the fantasy genre. A “Top Fantasy List” would therefore either have to be very long or would leave out many great scores!

Pillars of Eternity
Pillars of Eternity is one of those games, that propably not many people know about, despite it being a work of passion by Obsidian Entertainment, who brought us games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2 and The Outer Worlds. Of course, if it deserves metacritic score of 89 / 8.4, I cannot say, for I haven't played it either.

Dungeon Siege
Ich wünschte, ich könnte an dieser Stelle von Dungeon Siege, dem Erstlingswerk von Chris Taylors Studio Gas Powered Games (später Wargaming Seattle) schwärmen, der mein Leben später mit dem ersten Supreme Commander so versüßt hatte. Was würde ich gerne behaupten, dass ich unzählige Stunden Spaß mit dem Action RPG hatte, damals im fernen Jahr 2002 – aber hatte ich nun mal nicht. Zumindest nicht wirklich.

Top 10 scores from 2001
In meiner vorherigen Liste der Top 10 Soundtracks aus dem Jahr 2000 hatte ich damals dieses neue Tool, genannt ‚Chat-GPT‘, ausprobiert, um mir ein Ranking zusammenzustellen. Zwei Gedanken dazu: Man, ist das schon wieder lange her, dass KI offiziell an den Start ging; und man sollte echt überprüfen, was die KI einem da so zusammenstellt. Denn die hatte mir damals in ihre Vorschläge unter anderem Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty hineingeschmuggelt … das allerdings erst 2001 erschien. Das hatte ich damals aber nicht mehr überprüft, weshalb das Game so seinen Weg in meine selbsterstellte 2000er-Liste fand.

Neverwinter Nights
Four and a half years ago, I wrote my 22nd of a total of 334 reviews on this site - including add-ons - with Neverwinter Nights 2. A lot has happened since then. Back then, I noted that if I were asked to recommend a good, classic role-playing game, I would probably suggest Neverwinter Nights 2. Good game, no doubt - but nowadays the choice would probably be Baldur’s Gate 3, the genre's prime example of fun pen & paper on PC, released in 2023.

SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars
Vor 18 Jahren (holy ****) erschien mit SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars eines der besten Rollenspiele aller Zeiten – das behaupte zumindest ich. Mit seiner zeitlosen Grafik, einer tollen Story und dem clever erweiterten Spielprinzip des nicht minder großartigen Vorgängers SpellForce: The Order of Dawn bleibt es bis heute in meiner Hall of Fame der ganz großen Rollenspiele … und Strategiespiele.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Schon mal kleine Warnung vorweg: Das hier wird eine längere Kiste. Nicht nur, weil Skyrim als fünfter und aktuell letzter Teil der Elder Scrolls-Hauptreihe wohl das bekannteste Rollenspiel der jüngeren Vergangenheit darstellt. Erfolge wie das fantastische The Witcher 3 oder das nicht minder großartige Baldur’s Gate 3 verdrängen zwar langsam das mittlerweile 13 Jahre alte Spiel von seinem Chefsessel, aber mit seinen ständigen Re-Releases sorgt Publisher Bethesda dafür, dass der Ausflug nach Himmelsrand nicht ganz so schnell in Vergessenheit gerät.

Top 100 Video game tracks 2
When I created my first Top 100 videogame tracks almost four years ago, I thought on the one hand that I had put my magnum opus into the world. On the other hand, I was very sure that I would certainly not bother a second time, let alone a third. Almost four years later, I'm about to write my 200th review and feel the need to celebrate in style. And because not only have a bunch of new soundtracks reached the world's auditory canals in the meantime, but I've also been able to catch up on many 'old favorites', the stars seem to have aligned for a second list.

Borderlands
Als ich vor gut viereinhalb Jahren die Review zu Borderlands 2 schrieb, da tat ich dies zum einen, weil der Soundtrack stellenweise ganz gut gefetzt hat und ich euch etwas bieten wollte (das tue ich heute übrigens immer noch, nur anders). Hauptsächlich war meine Motivation jedoch, dass ich ein Spiel benötigte, dass mit dem Buchstaben B beginnt. Eine b-scheuerte Entscheidung, die sich bei Spielen wie Neverwinter Nights 2 und The Walking Dead: Season 3 - A New Frontier wiederholen sollte.
