Although I haven't played it, Virtua Tennis 2 disappointed me. Despite the fact that the successor to 1999's Virtua Tennis (or Power Smash in Japan and Tennis 2K2 in North America) offers a slice ability - i.e. a shot with a backward spin - and now also sportswomen, there is no mode with two balls! But that's exactly what the two in the title promises, or is it just me?
Joking aside, the tennis simulation from 2001 is probably a continuation of old virtues in the best sense of the word, which unfortunately cannot be transferred to the soundtrack. This can only be accessed as a gamerip of the Dreamcast version and was once again composed by Japanese composer Chiho Kobayashi. This time, however, it is less in the rock direction as in the predecessor, but rather classic 2000s sports game techno music.
Although there are still a few more guitar-heavy approaches (Virtua Tennis 04, Virtua Tennis 15), the electro (03, 08, 09) and techno tracks (06, 07, 11) are too much in the direction of Need for Speed for me. There, the late-90s style works for me thanks to the nostalgia glasses, but Virtua Tennis 2 is a little too generic and lacking in excitement for me. That's why the score (of the Dreamcast version) is a little weaker for me compared to the first Virtua Tennis and doesn't come close to the work of Rom Di Prisco for Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, for example.
