Vincible

Not only is the author of this article referred to as The Invincible in 1vs2 games in Age of Empires IV, but also the recently released video game adaptation of the sci-fi novel of the same name by Stanisław Lem. In the so-called Atompunk setting, basically a retro-futuristic depiction of space travel, we explore the planet Regis III as astrobiologist Yasna and stumble across all kinds of philosophical subjects - according to the promise of the book and game.

This expedition is accompanied by a 13-track score by the lesser-known Brunon Lubas. He is unlikely to make the leap out of obscurity with this album, as it is largely a typical sci-fi ambient record. In other words: long reverberating sounds (Nadir), ominous spherical wafting (Amid the Ruins, A Long Night) and distortions (The First).

Musical accents such as the use of piano and synths (Black Rain, Escape from Regis III) or Stranger Things , which is reminiscent of Hopper’s Descent (what an irony with the title!), break up the dry planetary backdrop in a pleasant way, but real bangers such as Escape Velocity from No Man’s Sky don't appear on the radar. So you're left with the usual background future gimmick, which you skip boredly in search of tonal highlights in the Cyberpunks or Ghost Runners of this world. Something for atmosphere fans only!
