Blissful peace

Spiritfarer Spiritfarer was recently released and, as far as I know, is a nice little adventure game with lump-in-the-throat potential and melancholy overkill along the lines of indie-artsy-fartsy games like Seasons After Fall, Gris and the like. For some reason, I just felt like 'giving myself' the soundtrack, as they say in modern German.

Said and heard. Maxime Lacoste-Lebuis, called Max LL, who doesn't seem to have gone beyond the Spanish double 'the' when creating his stage name, is responsible for the schmaltzy emotional rollercoaster - complete with piano strumming and pan/transverse flute. Musically, however, he is much more creative and presents a colorful mix that happily jumps back and forth between upbeat, carefree and depressingly down-to-earth.

After all, the content of the game is about replacing the ferryman Charon on the river of souls Styx and ferrying the souls of dead animals to the realm of the deceased. Before that, however, you can give them a nice send-off - in other words, a kind of funeral service in a colorful and child-friendly style, perfectly implemented musically.

The soundtrack offers exactly what you would expect, but unfortunately nothing more. The melodies are moving, but don't really stay in your head without an emotional connection. However, the 40-track score has actually awakened a certain interest in the game in me. So maybe I can fire up the tear ducts again soon, as they are so rarely used in my perfect life. The OST, on the other hand, lands in the solid midfield in terms of rating - at least today.
