Contrary to what the name might suggest, SimCity 2000 was released in 1993 and is therefore one year younger than me. As a result, I didn't get involved with the series until much later. Nevertheless, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to listen to the beginnings. Thought, and done. Turns out it's exactly what you'd expect from an early nineties building game: Upbeat music with synth strings and electric piano strumming.

Combined with an accompanying bass, an average track duration of one minute and a lack of motifs, this results in a background drone that can encourage you to cheerfully rise up cities from the ground, but without a corresponding game, the score clocks in on elevator level. Fans of comparable genre representatives such as Transport Tycoon can give it a listen, but shouldn't expect a revelation.
