A league of its own

A game in which oversized footballs are kicked across the lawn with cars may sound weird at first, but it has already worked for Stefan Raab and others. In video game form, the vehicles are also equipped with a rocket propulsion system and sometimes unintentionally explode when they collide in full speed. This gameplay is, however, a guarantee for fun entertainment - especially in couch co-op - and a prime example of the guiding principle 'Easy to learn, hard to master'. That's all you really need to know about Rocket League , except perhaps that it's one of the few games in which my brother is one hood length ahead of me.

Für die musikalische Untermalung hat Mike Ault vom Entwickler Psyonix, zusammen mit zahlreichen anderen Komponisten, versucht, sich an den Sporttiteln Marke FIFA sports titles, bundling well-known artists into a playlist and running them as background music in the main menu. However, due to a lack of big bucks, less well-known artists, fan compositions and internal team productions were used here. Nevertheless, the whole thing looks like a coherent whole and we've known since Castle Crashers.

The genre of the score can be narrowed down quite well to EDM and progressive house, and the quality is sometimes mixed. As with the big role model, the ratings depend very much on your own preferences. I can't say whether someone prefers what I think is the great composition Firework by Hollywood Principle, the acoustic version of the quirky We Speak Chinese with its booming beats or Weirdo by the artists Dr. Awkward & Vince Vandal. These three are at least my favorites in this very solid soundtrack, which should definitely have something for fans of the genres mentioned above. Just give it a listen.

Nostalgia warning

The rating of the individual tracks is purely subjective and clearly colored by my own experience with the game. You can find out more in the article About Nostalgia.
