This site isn't just here to celebrate the big bombastic scores and indie gems, but to cover the world of video game soundtracks as comprehensively as possible. I keep coming across little treasures and remarkable compositions that lie dormant in some titles (Valiant Hearts, Celeste or Bastion are just a few examples). Then again, you come across music like in Codename: Panzers – Phase One and realize that some unknown games are perhaps best left undiscovered. Of course, this is only true if the soundtrack's quality is indicative of the gameplay's.

Everything here is screaming 'average', from the creative track names to the acoustic military mishmash, nothing catches the ear or eye. Entertaining melodies are sought in vain, as are accents or breaks with genre conventions. Composer Péter Antóvszki masterfully runs the prayer wheel of World War II accompaniment tunes, so that any form of uniqueness is missing. The music is recognizably oriented towards war tropes such as drums and wind instruments, which sometimes heroically, sometimes grimly call to march.

You could just as well use the music as filler in comparable games like Silent Storm, Company of Heroes or Empire Earth and it would hardly be noticeable. Still, I don't think it has the creative merit to get more than a 2/5. It's just not that special. If you are looking for some background music for your next Nazi documentary or a tough hiking tour, you can definitely give it a listen. However, if you're really looking for highlights as well as character, you're more likely to find it in the examples mentioned above.
