Year: 2010
Type: Original Soundtrack (OST)
Composer(s): Mike Morasky
Number of tracks: 5

Too alien

People who have never heared of Alien Swarm can be assured at this point that they have not missed anything. The isoperspective shooter programmed by an original mod team for Valve is only worth mentioning insofar as it was one of the first freeware titles to appear exclusively on Valve's own (and at the time still relatively new) sales platform Steam. Apart from that, there's really nothing more to say about the game: it's enjoyable, fun and hardly worth mentioning.

Fortunately, the same cannot be said about the OST, which was composed by Valve composer Mike Morasky. There are good approaches to be heard, which we already know from previous titles such as Left for Dead or Portal . "Timor Battle" in particular could also have been used in this form in an action piece from Gordon Freeman's second appearance. Overall, however, the score is lacking in notable pieces, which should hardly come as a surprise given that it comprises only 5 tracks. If you fancy some driving techno beats and a bit of future-wa-wa, you're welcome to give it a listen - just don't expect a masterpiece.

Nostalgia warning

The rating of the individual tracks is purely subjective and clearly colored by my own experience with the game. You can find out more in the article About Nostalgia.
