Chios reports

An island with a numerous mountains

You read that right: "Chios", not "Chaos". After graduating from high school, I spent July 2012 to June 2013 on the Greek island of Chios near the Turkish mainland, where I did my voluntary social year. "Oh wow, social commitment, I didn't expect that from you!" Me neither. I had just graduated from high school and didn't really know what I wanted to do. In the middle of my internship at the local newspaper "Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger" (IKZ), where my father still works as a photographer, an advertisement appeared saying that they were looking for a volunteer for a project in Greece. The premise: All-inclusive, one year in Greece with computer work and sailing lessons - how could I pass on that? I applied the same day and six weeks later I got off the plane at Chios City Airport.

I did not write the headlines

My colleagues at the newspaper thought this to be such a great story that they offered me the chance to write a kind of foreign column. With the prospect of some extra income and the opportunity to flex my writing muscles a little, I wrote various articles. The original plan was to publish one issue every month, but on the one hand I was lazy and on the other I surprisingly had to work quite a lot on the project. I have summarized the result in this PDF and I would like to retrospectively apologize for the writing style. Back then, I was a big fan of long, artificially inflated and generally very difficult and almost incomprehensible chain sentences, which sometimes fill an entire paragraph and confuse the reader, if he still had the leisure to read by then, although I understand if he doesn't, since he (or she) had possibly already been take away the will to read what was actually an talking point. Just a heads up. If you want to read, do so and have fun! Oh, and it's in German, of course.

Note: Article 4 never ended up in the newspaper, I can't recall why. I have therefore inserted the raw text.
