3 ½ stars for an Asterix

Asterix from 1993 was a game for the Gameboy with a big name and simple gameplay: run from left to right, collect everything and destroy the Romans - so I think. After all, I only played the successor Asterix & Obelix which was definitely a lot of fun back then, but I can't say whether that's still true today. What I can judge, however (a master of transitions is at work), is the 13-track score by Alberto José González Pedraza.

As usual for the Gameboy, it blabbers at us in the familiar chiptune manner and with its wandering song aesthetic and nice melody, it radiates such an offensive good mood that I pay the highest respect to any parent who could endure the music at full volume for longer than 10 minutes. Due to their loopability and manageable length, the songs burn themselves into the brain comparatively quickly, although they shouldn't stay there for too long in the interests of enduring sanity. Anyone who has played the game in the past will probably have fond memories of it and enjoy the music - I, for example, feel the same way about the similar sequel Asterix & Obelix that way. However, despite its qualities, the score is certainly not a must-have.
