Homeless

Although, according to Wikipedia, it won the 'Best PC Game of the Show' award at the European Computer Trade Show (ECTS) in 2001, probably nobody even remembers Project Nomads. I myself only came across it unintentionally and I'm not sure whether it was included in a magazine as a full version or whether I was given it as part of a friend's room makeover.

The game principle itself is actually quite interesting: we steer a flying island, construct buildings such as turrets or power plants on fixed slots and soar through the campaign. We even have a pick of three heroes with different strengths and weaknesses - just don't ask me what they were. Nimble girl, ordinary dude and strongman is what I can recall. Nowadays I probably wouldn't even touch this programming experiment if I had to, but Project Nomads was good as a stopgap back in the mid-2000s.

All in all, it remains an experience worth forgetting. That goes double for the accompanying score. It was so insignificant that not only was it not worthy of an original soundtrack; no, in fact, it is not even possible to determine who was at work as the composer. Neither my go-to sites IMDB IMDB or mobygames could provide any help. The only suspect is Sylvius Lack. Although he sounds like the puff daddy from a Harry Potter-porn parody, it seems that he is actually a real person who worked as an audio director at the developer Radeon Labs and is now teaching as a professor of game design at the Mediadesign Hochschule für Design und Informatik in Berlin.

So what does he have to offer us in the Gamerip then, Mr. Professor? Well, that would be 18 tracks, all of which sound pretty much the same: trippy drums calling for attention, MIDI-like wind instruments and a certain mystical flair. Basically, all the tracks sound like a bunch of cavemen are about to sacrifice something - or someone. But where such ceremonies usually come with a climax, absolutely nothing happens in this score. I don't want to throw any more of my time on the altar of this composition, which is why I'll leave it at that and say: hands off the island muck.

Nostalgia warning

The rating of the individual tracks is purely subjective and clearly colored by my own experience with the game. You can find out more in the article About Nostalgia.
