(T)urban sounds

Hello friends. I've been feeling a bit mentally unwell over the last few days, so I've been a bit out of the loop when it comes to writing reviews. Generally speaking, my reviews feel a bit standardized and quite repetitive, which is something I like to accuse game developers and composers of. Nevertheless, I don't want to give up writing, which is why I decided to write a short review of Shadow Ops: Red Mercury.

Like Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War , this game from 2004 is also from the never-before-heard category. Looking at the cover and a quick google, it appears to be a shooter set in the Middle East, with Hooray Hooray America against evil turban wearers. It looks a bit like Call of Duty Light, and a quick look at the gameplay confirms this assumption. The only interesting fact to mention is the development studio Zombie Studios, from which the Spec Ops-series originates... and that's about it.

The situation is similar with the original soundtrack. Although it was composed by professional composer Inon Zur, it falls into the category of 'early works'. That doesn't have to be a bad thing, after all, the music evokes an oriental feel reminiscent of Crysis with Dragon Age-touch - but there are no real hits. All in all, you can listen to this one if you have a little wanderlust for stereotypical oriental sounds and conventional action.
