Bloodborne 2

The score of the Bloodborne clone Thymesia has only just been released and is already in my review section. The game, which is not only reminiscent of From Software's Souls spin-off in terms of gameplay and setting, is accompanied by a soundtrack that could just as easily come from the Dark Souls series. In 15 tracks, composer Ben Ridge creates a pleasantly dark, melancholic and action-packed musical experience that is in no way inferior to numerous AAA productions.

On the one hand, he takes his thematic cue from the great role model and resorts to an orchestral combination of strings, piano and percussion, which lends the whole thing the necessary gravitas. You really get the feeling that you are witnessing an epic confrontation. On the other hand, Ridge also seems to have copied one or two things from BioShock- and Shadow of Mordor-composers Garry Schyman composer Garry Schyman. Connoisseurs should hear some parallels to underwater horror in “Philosopher's Hill” or “Sea of Trees Combat”.

A frequent companion to this clean mix are striking female vocals, without which hardly any eerily oppressive soundtrack seems to get by. This is particularly evident in the theme song “Thymesia” and “God of the Fools Area”. Sometimes, however, the whole choir is allowed to join in (“God of the Fools”) and you have to do a lot wrong for that not to sound right. And even the use of the church bell in combination with the organ, as heard in “Corvus”, did make it into the mix.

To summarize, it can be said: The action pieces are suitably epic, the exploration themes sound like curious investigation and even without recognizable themes, each track fits well into the overall composition. All in all, the OST delivers a well-rounded experience worth listening to, which should conjure up a certain recognition in the eyes of fans of From Software games in particular, but should also delight lovers of musical epicness and tragedy.
